In 2022, I embarked on a personal endeavor to delve into the effect of music in alleviating stress and anxiety. Through a thorough investigation, I acquired knowledge about a particular music genre - soft pop, which can stimulate the release of dopamine. Additionally, I delved into the technical aspects essential for crafting a song that fosters a sense of calm. By scrutinizing elements like pitch, timbre, tempo, and harmony, I aimed to create a musical composition that would be proficient in inducing a state of calmness in individuals. To assess the effectiveness of my project, I surveyed teenagers during exam time, in which I asked them to evaluate their stress levels before and after listening to the song. The results showed that 85% of participants reported feeling less stressed after listening to my composition. However, these findings were based on subjective experiences and lacked objective measures.
In 2023 I decided to expand my project during a summer internship at the Buddhi Clinic, a neuropsychiatric clinic in Chennai, India, where I focused on obtaining tangible results for my therapeutic intervention. Specifically, I aimed to assess the clinical impact of my 20-minute original composition on patients diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Currently, research is underway to gather and analyze data in this regard.
